01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

One of the signature draws at Izakaya COCO is its sōki soba, featuring thick, rustic noodles in a deeply savoury broth topped with pork spare ribs so tender they yield at the touch of chopsticks. Braised until rich flavour reaches right to the bone, the comforting bowl keeps diners coming back without needing any flashy presentation.

Helmed by an owner hailing from Miyako Island, the izakaya offers authentic Okinawan drinking fare such as chilled island tofu (shima-dōfu) topped with pickled mustard greens, aromatic green peppers grown on Miyako Island, island shallots (shima-rakkyō), and sea grapes (umibudō). Homestyle dishes such as bitter melon stir-fry (gōyā champurū) and seasoned rice (jūshī) let guests sample a variety of regional tastes over their drinks.

To accompany the food, crisp shikuwasa citrus beer, fragrant fruit sours, and awamori all make natural pairings. Offering both counter seats and booth tables, the space works just as nicely for solo visitors unwinding after hours as it does for groups enjoying lively conversation and karaoke.
